About us
A Craft Publisher with two voices.
Evamaya Publishing House began more than a decade ago when its founder decided, quite innocently, to attempt to write a book. It had always been a dream of his, and he wanted to see if he could do it. There was no publishing strategy and no ambitious business plan.
Then, one evening at the dinner table, his young daughters Eva and Maya asked how the book was coming along. Their enthusiasm turned a private ambition into a promise — the book would have to be finished. That first manuscript became Hearts & Spades, and when traditional publishers answered with rejections or silence, he asked the question that started this company: what would it take to publish this book ourselves — and to do it well?
The answer became a small publishing company, named for the two young readers who had inspired it. During the pandemic, a friend's idea for a book about leadership put Evamaya back to work. And when one of those daughters decided to write a book of her own, Evamaya launched Distant Star Books to give science fiction a home of its own.
Today Evamaya Publishing House is a Craft Publisher — small by choice, giving each project the care it needs. All ISBNs for our titles are owned by Evamaya Publishing House.
Distant Star Books, wholly owned by Evamaya Publishing House, publishes fiction — specifically science fiction.
Evamaya Books publishes nonfiction works on leadership, business and technology.
Joe Marroquín founded Evamaya Publishing House in 2009, naming it for his daughters Eva and Maya — the two young readers whose enthusiasm turned his private ambition to write a book into a promise kept.
Publishing is where his lifelong love of books meets a lifetime of executive experience. Joe is a senior operating executive with more than twenty-five years leading organizations through growth, transformation, modernization, and strategic change — including C-suite roles in public companies and private equity-backed enterprises, and service as founding CISO of a NYSE-listed company. A former United States Naval Officer and combat veteran, he has advised Fortune 100 and Global 50 organizations across technology, energy, media, financial services, and critical infrastructure.
He brings that same discipline to the publisher's desk. Joe is the author of Pragmatic Cybersecurity: Focus on What Really Matters and co-author of Executive Points of View, and he leads Evamaya's annual Roadmarks whitepaper on the state of the publishing industry — an industry perspective from the small publisher's desk.

Why we keep it small
Evamaya does not accept outside manuscripts or offer publishing services. Keeping the house small lets us give every book the care it deserves.
